A Centenary Portfolio of Forty-Three Facsimiles & Reproductions of Unique or Rare Items From the William A. Speck Collection of Goetheana in Yale University Library. Number VII. During the summner months of 1913 Mr. William A Speck transferred his great collection of Goetheana to the Yale University Library. For the next fifteen years he was privileged to offer his rich materials to the scholar and exhibit his fascinating treasures to a large and appreciative public until his shortly before his death in 1928. During the fifteen years of Mr. Speck's curatorship the Library issued from time to time reproductions in facsimile of unique or rare items from the collection. Mr. Speck began his series of publication in January, 1915 and continued it through six numbers, bringing the series to an enforced conclusion due to ill health in June, 1927. This portfolio of forty-three reproductions is the last of this series and was designed as a culminating tribute to a labor of love by Mr. Speck, and was published in 1932 to honor the hundredth anniversary of the death of Goethe. The selection of material included in this portfolio was intended to represent the full span of Goethe's life and the broad sphere of influence his life encompassed. With an introduction by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and preface by Carl F. Schreiber, Curator of the William A. Speck Collection of Goetheana, dated November 8,1932. The additional text includes 43 pages of notes on the forty-three reproductions contained herein. Bookseller Inventory # 000155
