Book Description Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1948. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: fair. First Edition. First Edition. Hardcover. 13 1/4" X 10 3/4". Unpaginated. Newspaper clippings laid in: "Laughlin's Old South to Visit Latin Lands" from the Times-Picayune New Orleans States Magazine, June 8, 1947. Heavy wear to unclipped dust jacket, with soiling and scattered rubbing, chipping, tears, and tape to both verso and recto, and flaking to spine made brittle from sunning. Black cloth over boards, with upper board and spine lettered in white. Heavy edgewear to binding, with hard bumping and rubbing to edges and extremities, tears to cloth, and heavy dust soiling. Mild toning to pictorial endpapers. Tape to hinges. Binding is sound. Occasional light foxing to pages, else clean and unmarked. A worn first printing in worn dust jacket, but solid, of Southern surrealist photographer John Clarence Laughlin's best known work, an examination of the magic and enigma of Louisiana plantation houses, focusing on "that which may roughly be called historico-architectural and that which pulsates around the poetic vision," featuring 100 of his photographs and a prologue by the author.
