An amazing, very rare, thick, old, full leather- bound book full of wonderful and interesting facts about seafaring laws and much more besides. Measures 9in x 7in x 2 in, blind-stamped design to front and rear boards, 2 small indents to front board, faint gilt lines to fore edges of boards, vestiges of gilt decorations to spine with 5 raised bands. Solid, tight binding with no splits or hinge problems. Pastedowns a little untidy with paper wrinkling but all there and no inscriptions. Fold out frontispiece 10 in x 9 in, title page, 6pp Dedication, 8pp Preface, 5pp The Contents ( 14 chapters plus Appendix and New Apendix), 12pp The Index, fold out engraving 13.5 in x 9 in of 77 flags: "A general view of the flags which most nations bear at sea" (fascinating!) 684pp, 107 pp Appendix.
