Book Description Dodd, Mead & Co,, New York, 1967. Hard Cover. 297 pages, 16 plates, cloth, dj, ex-library with usual library markings otherwise very good. From the dj: Charles F. Haywood is a native New Englander, born in Lynn, Massachusetts. Mr. Haywood has long been interested in fire-fighting and fire protection, and he has often been with the firemen in important battles. He has served as a volunteer fireman and fought in many forest fires. As a city councilor he was a member of the Fire Department Committee. He sponsored the Massachusetts statue giving cities the power to require sprinklers in cellars, hallways and stairways of multiple occupancies, a measure vitally necessary in protecting lives in hotels and large apartment houses. Many articles on fire-fighting have appeared under his byline in the Boston Globe, and his stories of interesting fires have been published in magazines. He is also the author of several books, including No Ship May Sail, Eastward the Sea, Yankee Dictionary and Minutemen and Mariners. Bookseller Inventory # 15831
