Truly a Renaissance man, Willie Park Jr. was an inventor with many ball and club patents, a champion player winning The Open Championship twice, author, club manufacturer, and golf course architect. Significantly, this book contains the first published information on golf course architecture in the chapter entitled, "Laying Out and Keeping Golf-Links". The fragile cover illustration (typically rubbed) is in excellent condition, original endpapers, spine slightly faded, small brown spot and two rubber stamps from the Boy's Institute North Berwick on half title page. Bright, clean copy without the usual foxing. No bookplate, former owner name, marginalia, underlining, soiling, creases, tears, etc. Very uncommon second edition, published in 1896, the same year as the first edition.
