Contemporary gift inscription to front free endpaper; cloth spine slightly spotted; dust-jacket with chipping at spine ends and corners with slight loss. Jacket artwork by W.J. Roberts. Jonathan Mansel, one of Dornford Yates' most popular characters, heads a small private organisation dedicated to the detection of serious crime "by methods sadly unavailable to the regular police".
