vii, [1], 216pp. With three engraved, hand-coloured plates of plant specimens. Uncut in original publisher's drab paper boards, recently rebacked with tan paper, title in manuscript to spine and upper board. Lightly foxed, ink gift inscription to recto of FFEP 'John S. L. Gilmour / 28/9/30 / from Kingey(?)', alongside later ownership inscription 'A. J. Wilmott / 1944'. A catalogue, first printed in 1810, of the varieties of wild plants to be found within the district of Tunbridge Wells, with their common and Latin designations and most likely habitats, by botanist Thomas Furly Forster (1761-1825). The work was reissued in 1842 by his son, writer on science Thomas Ignatius Maria Forster, with the inclusion of a biographical memoir. John Scott Lennox Gilmour (1906-1986), botanist and horticulturist. A true bibliophile, Gilmour put his considerable knowledge of the second-hand book market to use in building the rich horticultural library in the Cambridge Botanic Garden. Size: 8vo.
