About this Item

The exhibition catalogue, including title and price list, for an exhibition of pop art inspired by Andy Warhol and others held at the short-lived Fitzgerald Gallery at its new digs on 718 Madison Avenue. A cooperative venture originally established in 1960 at 19 E. 7th Street, the Fitzgerald Gallery was noted for its comic sensibility. This exhibition included works based on Jello, Pepsi, Fab, Brillo, Campbell Soup, and S&H Green Stamps, along with homages to Warhol, Lichtenstein, Segal, Albers, and Mondrian. In the spirit of the occasion, the catalogue billed the Fitzgerald Gallery as "the first and only gallery offering premium stamps with the sale of painting and sculpture!" Thus, for example, if one bought La Rosa Ronzini #4 (spaghetti on canvas, 20 x 20) by Dillon Dillon, one would receive 3500 Green Stamps, redeemable for televisions, percolators, mixers, and other useful commodities. Five mimeographed pages stapled and folded, laid into printed covers. Fine. A fun relic of the period. Bookseller Inventory # 16530
