About this Item
AS NEW. Gold Boards. Tight, as published. This is not one of the Limited Edition numbered copies, but, is rarer and more important. This is the 1973 re-binding/re-issue of 1964 Vol 1 Number 1 of "Smithsonian Annals of Flight", done in the same special hardbound gold boards: "1923-1973 "Golden Anniversary - The Flight of the T-2". FLAT SIGNED by one of the original pilots of that 1923 first non-stop coast to coast New York to San Diego flight, JOHN A. MACREADY, then a Lt. Macready is also the ONLY TRIPLE WINNER of the MACKAY TROPHY, reaching rank as Col and then enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1968. He was the first pilot to reach an altitude record in 1921 of 40,800 feet on the first use of supplemental oxygen. An extraordinarily rare USA Military/Aviation collectible book as signed by this great American Aviator. His Wikipedia biography is also tipped in as reference. ALSO tipped in a provenance letter dated 1990 describing the book being signed at a banquet honoring Col Macready. All in all, a special grouping of USA aviation memorabilia with a RARE signature.
