About this Item
5-7/8" x 8-7/16", x + 597pp. Printed on alkaline paper and bound in sewn signatures in red cloth boards. Title block screened in black and gilt on spine, and a facsimile of Hemingway's signature is screened in black onto the front panel. Missing jacket, but it has left a faint trace at the foot of the front panel where a part of it must have adhered at one time. Minor shelf wear, soiling (visible in the grooves of the spine fold), and the corners are slightly bumped. Top of book block, previously tinted, is faded / discolored. Binding is square and tight. The final three sheets are creased / folded at the bottom. Gift inscribed and dated ("Xmas 1938") in ink on the half title page, otherwise pages are evenly age toned but clean and unmarked.
