Signed: Signed by Author
Publisher: Winnipeg : Gisli Jónsson, 1919. Description: 244 p. : ill., port. ; 18 cm. Includes index. Near Fine condition in red cloth with gilt lettering and decorations to front cover. Prominent Icelandic-Canadian author's first book of Poems. Stephan Einarsson, in his History of Icelandic Literature (p. 349) states that this book shows Jonsson to be 'a master of lyric expression and musical form'. This author immigrated to Winnipeg in 1903. He became the editor of Timarit, the journal of the Canadian Icelandic National League. In this work are many many translations into Icelandic of poems of other authors; as well as a poem he delivered at the Icelandic festival in Winnipeg in 1919. Some are original and relate to western Canada - e.g., one poem commemorates death of the son of a Winnipeg based Unitrian minister, Rognvaldur petursson. Thus, considerable Canadian content.
