Bibliographic Details

Title: THE FRENCH RIVIERA (In Scarce Dust Jacket)

Publisher: Boston: Hale, Cushman & Flint, n. d. But Circa 1930

Publication Date: 1930

Binding: Hardcover

Illustrator: Profusely Illustrated With Black and White Photos

Book Condition: Fine

Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good

Edition: 1st Edition

Description:

Extremely scarce in that the dust jacket is quite well preserved, especially the colorful front cover of the jacket, which pictures a lovely artist's rendition of a French Riviera scene done in the style of the art deco period. Endpapers with a light blue pictorial of ocean liner at sea also have a deco feel to them. This book is from a travel series that began publication in 1927 according to the date in some books in the series. This particular title undated but probably late twenties also. Non-associative gift inscription at top left of half title page has date of 1932. Spine of jacket with some chipping and rub especially at back joint edge and at foot of spine, but lettering on spine jacket is still all there. Spine of jacket sunned, but the front cover of jacket is the prize and it is still bright. Even when titles in this series are found with a jacket, the jacket is often just a fragment. This jacket, not price clipped, now preserved in mylar clear covering (removable). Pages of text and the accompanying black and white photos are lightly tinted to give a softer look to the content. Book itself is square, tight and clean and basically as new condition. Gilt lettering on cover and spine of the cloth. Preface is by Arnold Bennett. Size: Octavo, 160pp + Foldout Map at Back.
