422 pages; Contents clean and complete in original green cloth binding with gilt lettering (faded from spine); endpapers split along hinges, but binding remains secure. Former owner's name on rear endpaper "Edwin Bonshack;" faint inscription in Persian on front endpaper conveying friendship and enjoyment of these beautiful words. Text in Persian. Color illustrated headpieces for first page of some titles included in this anthology. Could not identify date or other publication information, but likely Tehran, c. 1920s-1930s [Sorry, I don't read Persian.] Works in this volume include In The Name of God the Merciful; The Bustan; Golestan (The Flower Garden); etc. Saadi Shirazi, better known by his pen name Saadi, also known as Sadi of Shiraz(1210- 1291 or 1292), was a Persian poet and prose writer of the medieval period. He is recognized for the quality of his writings and for the depth of his social and moral thoughts. Saadi is widely recognized as one of the greatest poets of the classical literary tradition, earning him the nickname "The Master of Speech" or "The Wordsmith" or simply "Master" among Persian scholars. He has been quoted in the Western traditions as well. His book, Bustan has been ranked as one of the 100 greatest books of all time by The Guardian. Seller Inventory # 44513
