The present work reports Legallois's discovery of the site of the respiratory center in a circumscribed aerea of the medulla oblongata, a discovery that nullified the current belief that respiration depended upon the entire brain. Legallois is also remembered for having revived the neurogenic theory of the heart's action, which states that the motor power of the heart comes from the spinal cord via the brances of the sympathetic nervous system" (Norman Libr. 1324). - Im oberen Teil des Buges meist etw. wasserrandig.
