First edition thus. Title page dated 1917, with other Dostoevsky titles on facing page with White Nights (shortly) and An Honest Thief (in progress). The first American appearance of The Double. The Eternal Husband was first translated by Whishaw as The Permanent Husband, paired with Uncle's Dream, published by Vizetelly in 1888. 323 p. Gray cloth with gilt lettering, gilt top stain. Very Good condition. Spine darkened, spot of light rubbing; cloth a bit soiled. Pages toned with age. Volume 8 of The Novels of Fyodor Dostoevsky, translated by Constance Garnett. Very Good with toned spine and lightly soiled cloth. Pages heavily toned. Crease to front free endpaper and hinge at verso of ffep slightly exposed. Several small stains to textblock edge.
