Cream-colored, textured paper card, folded vertically at the center to form a 4 ½ in. x 3 ½ in. oblong. A printed Christmas Card from American Poet James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916) with color embossed poinsettia design in upper left, and engraved message: "With Christmas Greetings From James Whitcomb Riley."Riley's signature is engraved. The open card features a six-line, engraved poem, beginning: "O Brother mine of birth Divine" and closing: "Our hearts go singing up to Thee." The matching textured paper envelope has the embossed maker's name: Kurtz Bros. Makers, Clearfield, Pa. Hand addressed to book collector, W. H. Cathcart 10700 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, Ohio (Wallace Hugh Cathcart 1865-1942) Postmarked: "Indianapolis Ind. Dec. 19 1914." Cancelled red, two cent Washington portrait stamp present. Envelope shows dusting, tears to back flap. Four edges of the card are gilt-edged, light age-tanning to card. A very scarce item. Seller Inventory # ABE-1480594338437
