New or second edition published four years after the first. Small 8vo., endpaper, title with engraved fleuron/contents, pp-2- 184, [7.5pp.] index, half page references used, [4pp.] medical biographies, privilegii sententia, in contemporary paper backed limp vellum and ties, hand blocked spine titles, hand printed classmark label spine, repeated on front free endpaper, crude very old signature in sepia on the head, a faded inscription below that with a contemporary 14 or so word sepia inscription below that, bookseller or librarian's note in pencil, with a printed library plate, an anti theft excommunication notice in Spanish with an engraved border on verso, round library stamp on title, a presentation inscription in sepia on the tail, ' JSD ' in pencil on the back pastedown, a contemporary hand has underlined a passage on one page in dark havana ink, Latin text. Parisiis [Paris], Apud Andream Wechelum, sub Pegaso in vico Bellouaco, 1564. £700.00 Heavily patinated binding, three ties remaining of the four, one very shortened, shabby front pastedown, the last 5 or so leaf edges browned or stained with some loss to the margins of the last two. Uncommon in the trade, no Wellcome copy. Provenance: notice of the library of the college of S.D.S Buenaventura (Murcia Spain?), the stamp of the Biblioteca Franciscana Bogota, Colombia, Julio Mario Santo Domingo, his initials in the back. An important surgical manual with the last book dedicated to 'Lust diseases' including various types of herpes. It was in print largely in the form herein until 1644 or so. 243552.
