The book contains an Author's Note, an introductory essay, and 5 short stories. Each of the introductory essay and the five stories deals with the subject of nuclear weapons. Son of the author Sir Kingsley Amis, Martin Amis has been dubbed the "leading luminary of the English metropolitan literary world" by Terry Eagleton, England's most influential (living) literary critic.
