FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 10 x 7.25 inches. 128 pp. Bound in original pale blue boards, gilt, with blind stamped George Cross on front board, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear, including head and tail of spine and lower edge tear with loss of text. Extremities a little sunned at edges, but otherwise a very good copy with a clean interior. Early signature at head of title. Illustrated throughout by black and white photographs, including portrait frontispiece and facsimile letter. Decorated by title page vignette. Decorative pictorial endpapers. Evocative photographic account of wartime Malta. The sections are Undefeated Malta, The Island and its People, Keeping Malta supplied, Malta under Fire and In Defence of the Island. The text of the first part was by Captain Lewis Anselm da Costa Ritchie (1886-1967), naval officer and maritime author, who used the pseudonym, 'Bartimeus.'
