While there is no identification of the translator anywhere, there is a "Translator's Preface", only identified as written in "London, January, 1874". The last line of that Preface states as follows:."The best plea that can be offered for such indulgence is the fact that, although 'Les Cents Contes Drolatiques' were completed and published in 1837, the present is the first English version ever brought before the public." Red cloth boards with gilded lettering in black box on both front board as well as binding. Binding is darkened from wear with rubbing on both ends.553 pages in good condition, yellowed due to age, including 2 pages of "Epilogue".
