The published response by Cadet Thomas Ragland to his court martial and dismissal from West-Point in front of a Court of Inquiry, plus a Memorial to Congress. Ragland was accused of a mutiny or revolt against Sylvanus Thayer [1785 - 1872], the new Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy. Ragland and a small core of other cadets protested against the harsh treatment of a cadet by an officer. Their protest was squelched and Thayer's discipline was sustained as written by the William Wirt, Attorney General of the United States.
