1924. Second Edition. 301 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth covered boards with gilt. Black and white photographs. Black and white portrait frontispiece. Ex libris stamp at front. Pages remain bright and clean with minimal tanning and foxing. Some cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding loose. Some pages detached at front. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces heavily tanned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is slightly dulled. Inscribed and signed by the author. W. D. Funkhouser, (1881-1948), born in Indiana, became a professor of zoology at the University of Kentucky in 1918. In 1925 he was named dean of the graduate school, and in 1927 professor of anthropology, having co-founded the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology. He authored, or co-authored some of the outstanding books on Kentucky archaeology and anthropology. This book is a plea for the conservation of our water, soil, timber, and mineral resources.
