Synopsis: An inspiring tale of two countries through the eyes of a Cuban in exile. Persecuted for failing to participate in communist activities in Cuba, Alejandrin attempts to leave the island by boat and is arrested. Awaiting trial he enters the Peruvian Embassy with 10,800 others, only to be starved for weeks and attacked by Cuban military. After his surrender, Alejandrin is hunted by communist gangs until he reaches America through the port of Mariel. Interned in a processing camp until sponsored, the author compares the advantages of living in a democratic society as apposed to communist oppression.
About the Author: Alejandrin was born in a suburb of Havana in 1950, ten years before the communist revolution. He served three years in the Cuban army and was among the 10,800 at the Peruvian Embassy. He turned 30 on the Embassy grounds April 21st, the first day of the Mariel boat-lift. He entered the United States via the Mariel boatlift and attended college in Atlanta Georgia.
