First edition. 8vo. Original boards. Dust-jacket, correctly priced 12/6. Book itself VG; jacket with some wear and loss at corners and head of spine, a few closed tears. Jacket artwork by Biro. A semi-gothic thriller set largely in Victorian London, by a prolific writer and biographer. The book, like many of Hooke's, was subsequently made into a film, The Gypsy and the Gentleman (1958).
