About this Item

Slightly oversize quarter plate daguerreotype. Image size approximately 3.75" x 4.5". Matted with preserver in original embossed leather case with cut red velvet pad inside the front cover. Name of the photographer, S. Broadbent, embossed on the mat. Unexamined out of the case, but likely professionally cleaned and perhaps resealed. Case is modestly rubbed else near fine, with original metal clasps. Three children, a young teenage boy and two slightly younger sisters are seated together, with a large book draped across their laps, likely a scrapbook. Slight, delicate pink tint on their cheeks. Our date suggested by the mat, preserver, and case on the daguerreotype. Broadbent operated out of Wilmington, Delaware, but sold the business to a partner in early 1851. An attractive image of mid-century Delaware siblings. Seller Inventory # 588409
