Contains "The Seven Poor Travellers", "Nine New Stories by the Christmas Fire", "Hard Times", "Lizzie Leigh", "The Miner's Daughters", and "Fortune Wilfred." The latter three wrongly ascribed to Dickens; "Lizzie Leigh" by Mrs. Gaskell, and "Miner's Daughter " by Wm Howitt. According to Eckel, the author of "Fortune Wilfred" remains a mystery (cf. Eckel, pp 209 - 210). Square & tight. Period pos to ffep. A VG+ copy. Original publisher's vertically-ribbed brown cloth binding with gilt spine lettering & figure; boards stamped with geometric design (professionally recased). Bright yellow eps Ca 1855.
