About this Item

Kenneth Grahame's classic book began as a series of letters written by him to his only child, seven-year-old Alastair (who was known as 'Mouse'), during the summer of 1907. The letters became the spontaneous first draft of The Wind in the Willows, which was published the following year. The original letters are reproduced here for the first time in their entirety, together with David Gooderson's introduction and insights. My Dearest Mouse is fully annotated and illustrated throughout with magnificent pictures by Ernest Shepard, Arthur Rackham and other notable illustrators. Bookseller Inventory # 42899
