Bibliographic Details

Title: THE DARNING NEEDLE And Other Stories

Publisher: London: George Routledge and Sons, 1869, London

Publication Date: 1869

Binding: Decorated Blue Cloth

Illustrator: Many Drawings in the Text, Some Full Page

Book Condition: Good

A hard to find Hans Christian Anderson title, especially in an antique edition. This was from a set of 13 little volumes put out by Routledge in 1869, called the Hans Andersen Library. The title here offered was number four in the series. All of these little books are now scarce. This one unfortunately lacking the frontispiece called for, and also missing its front blank endpaper. First page is the title page, dated 1869. All the other pages of the book are present, including the ads at the back and the final blank endpapers. One of the ads is for the "Hans Andersen Library." A well worn but still decent copy for shelf and for reading. Cloth worn, especially at the edges. The spine is still attractive with title still bold set in a field of gilt, and at bottom of spine is "Hans Andersen Library" in gilt. Title on spine also bold with much gilt as a background to the lettering. Other decorations on covers both front and back. Contents of the book are quite clean. Title page with considerable browning. Well illustrated with several well executed and now very quaint looking drawings. Stories in this little book in addition to "The Darning-Needle" are: The Wicked Prince, Two Brothers, The Bell, By The Almshouse Window, Little Tuk, The Flax, The Money-Pig, The Swineherd, Something, A Leaf From The Sky, The Drop Of Water, The Jewish Girl, The Metal Pig, The Old House, and The Girl Who Trod On The Loaf.
