Book Description Thomas Y. Crowell Company, New York, 1961. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Stated First Printing. You're going to have a hard time finding a copy of this book in a dust jacket. You're not going to find one in the exceptional condition of this one. Beginning with the book, as you can see in the photograph, the light blue covers are very clean. However, the one imperfection this book has can be seen on the spine where there has been considerable and uneven fading. The black lettering on the front and spine is bright and unworn. The corners and bottom and top edges are in very good condition. This book is square and tight, perfectly bound. The interior of this book is not what you would expect from a work of juvenile fiction. It may be perfect. But you can't call something perfect without backing it up. So I just went through every single page and discovered that I was wrong. There's a speck sized spot on page 31. Perfection is so demanding. So that's it for soiling. No one has written their name or anything else on any page. There aren't any markings. There aren't any creases. There aren't any dogeared corners. If it weren't for the fading on the spine I might dare to pick the 'As New' option to describe this 55-year-old book. Now take a look at the photographs of the dust jacket. It pushes perfection as well. A little wrinkle at the top of the spine. That's just about it. And the dust jacket is NOT price-clipped. And the flaps look fantastic as well. So, to repeat myself, not only is the dust jacket extremely rare it is an extremely good condition. It is protected by a fitted cover. From an Internet review 'Sadly, no one would ever know that this book is a wonderful read for horse lovers by viewing the book without its dust jacket. I found this delightful book many years ago. The dust jacket has a lovely color drawing of a girl seated on a chestnut horse in the foreground and another girl on a grey behind her. Sheila, whose father ran the school's stables, feels Crofton Meadows is a boarding school 'for rich spoiled girls'. Yet she loves Jubilee, a handsome chestnut filly owned by the school. When Sheila is granted a scholarship to the school, wanting to please her mother, she accepts. But just as she had expected she hates the school. Because she isn't of the same 'class', the other girls snub her. Sheila especially hates Lorraine Coxon who is rich and smart and excelling at everything she tries. When Lorraine, who is accustomed to getting her way, asks her father to purchase Sheila's beloved Jubilee, things go from bad to worse, or so it seems. I loved the characters in this book. And of course the horses! I had worked for a wealthy summer riding camp many years ago so I was quite familiar with 'the rich kids who always got their way'. This book, despite being written in 1961, is a very good read for girls who are absolutely horse-crazy like I was, and still am! I hope others will find this gem of an old book to be as wonderful a read as I did. I still re-read it every now and then!' How can you resist?. Bookseller Inventory # 000973
