About this Item
A circa 1890 cabinet card of a young lad in traditional Scottish attire - including his hat, which lies politely unworn upon the table top. Card with the backmark reading "Under the Patronage of H.M. The Queen & H.E. The Governor". Card is edge worn and trimmed a wee bit tight on the right side. Photo has a few marks, else a great period image, offering an interesting look at a young 19th century Cape Town immigrant. S.B. Barnard "Cape Town's most fashionable photographer" opened his studio in Cape Town at 37 Adderley Street in May 1865, so this image could quite easily date earlier than c. 1890.
