Book Condition: Very Good

Description:

Originally engraved and published by William Faden, London, in 1749. This is the reduced version of the original large London map. (This reprint of 1849 is also a large map). An fascinating map that shows hundreds of land patents with the owners identified. Filled with details including roads and trails, villages and towns, terrain, watershed, forts, lakes and more. Covers the region bounded by the Delaware, Susquehanna Rivers on the west, the St. Laurence River to Lake Francis and the 45th parallel in the north and Connecticut River on the east. Engraved on stone by R.H. Pease. Compass rose below Long Island. Scarce. A copy of this 1849 map achieved $210 at auction (Old World Auctions) in 2001. This copy with some age staining (browning) and some short tears at the fold lines but still attractive and collectible. Included with this large map will be a small map showing "the Country of the VI Nations" originally made in 1771. The 7 3/4 by 12 inch map appears to be a 19th century printing -- possibly the 1851 Valentine (per an online catalogue in which this small map is priced at $95). Map has browning but is also very decent overall. The two maps together for $125, $85 less than the auction price of 2001, and this offering includes the second map valued at close to a hundred dollars. Please note that the pics are file photos. Our map in similar state of preservation. 27 1/2 By 37 1/2 Inches. Bookseller Inventory # 2182
