First of all, he has provided us with a Study Guide which we believe to be the most important contribution to this work in our time, and which is available in no other edition. Then he has provided a hundred-page Introduction to open this book to us. His study is the fruit of thirty years rich experience in research. Dr. Chai was educated in a Confucian family and his father, too, was a noted Confucian scholar. He attended Tsing Hua College in Peking, and upon his graduation in 1927 came to the United States to continue his studies at Stanford, Chicago and Northwestern Universities.
