First edition, first printing with original blue cloth binding with silver gilt letter and rules to the spine; firm corners to boards; short (3/5cm) previous owner's mark and date (1958) to front paste down has been covered over with black; very clean end papers and tight text block with no spotting or sunning; 52 largely full-page illustrations in colour and black and white of costumes. Dust jacket condition: Near Fine: full-page illustration of two young women in period costumes to front cover; no losses, one small (1cm) closed tear to top edge of front panel and very light scuffs to some edges, otherwise very clean and bright; not price clipped (25s).
