Bust-length portrait of Gaspard de Coligny (1519-1572), Seigneur de Châtillon, Huguenot leader in the French Wars of Religion, wearing an armor. Below, the scenes of his death in 1572, when he was first shot in the street, and two days later during the St. Bartholomew's Day massacres, he was killed in his home. On the verso a four-line verse 'Die Hochzeit foller blut / So in Paris gehalten (.)'. Engraving on paper; without margins; total: 13,5 x 8 cm.; pasted onto a paper frame and mounted onto cardboard.
