Map. Engraving. Image measures 6 1/2" x 8 5/8" Lovely map of the Persian Gulf with surrounding coastlines rendered in impressive detail. Many coastal features are labeled, as well as inland features of souther Persia. Mountains are depicted pictorially, and several major cities are indicated. Bahrain is named and pearl banks are rendered along with soundings. In very good condition, with minor toning and foxing to the original fold line. Dampstain to upper margin, not affecting the image. Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was the official hydrographer to the French king and the first person to hold the title of "Ingenieur de la Marine of the Depot des cartes et plans de la Marine" (chief engineer of the French Hydrographical Office). This edition unusual edition is in Italian and was produced by Comte de Maurepas Phelypeaux. Seller Inventory # 317591
