Thomas was the architect of such world class courses as Los Angeles Country Club, Riviera, and Bel Air. The book takes its title from the time Thomas spent in the Army Air Corps, where he served at the rank of Captain. Thomas was also a founding member of the Pine Valley Golf Club. The book includes extensive analysis of Thomas's design philosophy and pictures of his courses and a discussion of the courses. The cover illustration is of Riviera's sixth hole.
