A lucid and forceful writer, Barbeau expressed his views on politics, literature and the theatre in "Les Cahiers de Turc", two series of pamphlets published between 1921 and 1927. with a small group of French Canadians who, influenced by the ideas of the French syndicalists and early Italian fascists, felt that democracy was a failure and the ills of the modern world could be cured by instituting the corporate state, a series of guilds with a master guild or directing council. In November 1927 he acclaimed the progress being made by syndicalists and fascists. Later he was to change his views about the fascists but he adhered in his faith in those of the syndicalists.
