The original paper wrappers including decorated front wrapper and publisher's advertisements on rear wrapper, are included. Spine sunned; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by seven engraved plates, including two engraved frontispieces, including a portrait. Decorated by title page, head and tailpiece vignettes, by initials and by colophon. This title by Nicolas Fromaget (d.1759), known in English as The Kinsman of Mahomet was first published in Leiden in 1742, and relates the amatory and other adventures of a Frenchman captured by the Turks and held prisoner in Constantinople for eight years. It adds an historical and bibliographical account of the author and his works, by the editor, Octave Uzanne (1851-1931), a famous bibliophile, writer, publisher and journalist, whose research covered eighteenth century authors.
