About this Item
Oblong 4to. (33 cm.) unpaged [18 leaves]. Lapping green wrappers printed in darker green on the front cover and bound with a green cord. Leaves are heavy textured stock with deckle edges, each with a hand-colored photograph tipped on with the description printed below the image [two leaves have two photographs making a total of 20 photographs]. Just a few dings around the lapping edges with a couple of small chips missing, upper right corner of front wrapper slightly bent, binding cord intact, all colored photos in fine condition, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. In extraordinarily fine condition given its age and fragility. [OCLC record shows 1910, but the highway was not started until 1913 and did not reach Hood River until ca. 1915, hence the date I have given it. OCLC show only two holding libraries.] Arthur M. Prentiss was an American photographer (1865-c. 1941). Some of his photos are part of the Farm Security Administration and most of his work was developed in Oregon. Prentiss worked in the principal photography studios of Oregon between 1913-1922. He produced views of the Construction of Highways in Oregon: Columbia River Highway (Rowena Loops, Twin tunnels, .) and John Day Highway (Pipe organ rocks, .). Prentiss also documented life and works of people of Oregon. This is just a magnificent collection of photos of the Columbia River Highway by an exceptional photographer. Seller Inventory # 009004
