From the introduction - ". the Index covers, with the exceptions noted in the Preface, all manuscripts acquired between the years 1783 and 1835. . The present Index was originally issued in folio size but in order to make it more convenient in handling and to bring it into uniformity in format with the recently reprinted Catalogues of Additions this reprint of it has been reduced to royal octavo size. As with other reprints of the Department's out-of-print catalogues no alterations by way of corrections or additions have been made to the text.
