Chipping and tearing to edges, especially at head and tail of spine; moderate creasing; fading to spine and edges; wear on spine where a label was removed. Tight binding and clean interior. Text block has a deckle fore-edge. Paginated from 99 to 149. Previous owner's name is stamped on cover and title page. Includes 24 plates with black-and-white photos and illustrations. Henry R. Voth (1855-1931) was an ethnographer and missionary who worked among the Arapaho and the Hopi. This book collects six of Voth's papers: "Notes on Modern Burial Customs," "Notes on the Eagle Cult of the Hopi," "The Oraibi New Year Ceremony," "Tawa Baholawu of the Oraibi Flute Societies," "Four Hopi Tales," and "Hopi Marriage Rites on the Wedding Morning." ; B&W Photographs; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall.
