About this title

Synopsis:

This book features numerous photos of early Canadian ferries, including classic wooden boats such as launches and speed boats. Photos are reproduced on high quality paper. The book tells the story of early travel to the Bowen Island holiday resort during the period 1921 - 1956. The central character in this enterprise was Tommy White, who became known to thousands of vacationers. White coped with competitors, politicians, and the Great Depression. This is a true story of boats, people, politics, and romance.

Review:

This is a great read, with lots of local history and for me were several "I didn't know that" moments. It is wonderfully illustrated with lots of great old local photos. --The Westerner, Spring 2011

Many historic photographs -- Wooden Boat Magazine, Dec. 1998

Ommundsen tells a straightforward story and leaves nothing out -- Island Tides , Jan. 27, 2000

One of the book's strengths is its extensive use of historical photos -- Pacific Yachting, Dec. 1997

Should appeal to many readers. -- British Columbia Historical News, Spring, 1999
