It was in 1773 that Scotsman Boswell and his English friend Samuel Johnson went on a tour through the highlands and western islands of Scotland. Boswell kept a diary during the tour and included detailed descriptions of where they had gone and what Johnson had said. Now first published from the Original Manuscript. Prepared for the Press, with Preface and Notes by Frederick A. Pottle and Charles H. Bennett. Red cloth with blindstamped enblem to front, faux black label to spine with gilt titling, illustrated with a map of the tour and a few black and white plates, 435 pages. Light edge and shelf wear, light sunning to spine, darkening of textblock edges, previous owner's bookplate to first pastedown and inked name to ffep, to small brown spots to ffep.
