About this Item
The Book of Bow-Wows was written by Elizabeth Gordon (1866-1922). Elizabeth Gordon is known as an author of many wonderful books for children in the early 20th century. She intended her books to be amusing, while being educational. This 1913 publication by M.A. Donahue & Company, of Chicago is one of her most popular, although copies are rare today. It includes illustrations of various dog breeds, accompanied by a catchy little poem that explains something of the nature of the breed. The illustrations alternate between cartoonish and realistic and are by an illustrator identified simply as, ¿TAD.¿ Over the years there has been considerable debate about exactly who this illustrator was. This is a particularly rare book authored by Gordon. It¿s a wonderful addition to a collection of early books of rhyming words and puppy dogs. This 9.5 x 6.25 inch hardcover book has B/W and color illustrations and pages are not numbered. This book is in ¿Poor¿ condition. The brown cloth cover shows a minor bit of wear at corners. The cover shows the general soiling of the ages. The interior of the book has no markings. However, there are serious tears on some of the pages stabilized with tape, one has lost about a quarter of the page, pages are not bound and the interior has become detached from the cover. Both front and rear end-papers missing. Cannot state this is a complete copy. Copyright 1913. No Edition nor printing info found. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Seller Inventory # 007112
