Bound by Stikeman & Co. in full green morocco with thin triple-ruled border in gilt, surrounding a gilt inner quad-ruled frame with a sprig of leaves to upper frame corner, gilt panelled spine with five raised bands, top edge gilt, others deckled, wide inside gilt dentelles on all margins of the pastedowns, serpentine on turkish marbled endpapers, ribbon bookmark. Gentle sunning to the spine, light rubbing to upper joint, deckled fore-edge very slightly dusty, occasional offsetting from the paintings, minor unobtrusive spotting, odour of animal glue present, otherwise a magnificent, rare and unique copy, housed in a very good slipcase with suede interior and marbled exterior. Contains 107 original watercolour and ink (and/or gouache) paintings by Emile Delphes Chabod, primarily margin illustrations, with approximately half signed or initialled by the artist. Size: Octavo.
