Two 19th c. photographs, both c. 1890s and mounted dos-à-dos onto the same thick green card. The Boorne photo measures 9.5 x 7.5 inches wide and is titled in negative along bottom edge "1250, Stoney Creek Bridge, Selkirks. 296, Ft. High. W.H.B." (the Stoney Creek Bridge was rebuilt in steel in 1894) ; the Thompson measures 9.25 x 7.25 inches wide and is titled along bottom edge "7,500 Oolachans in Catch. S.J. Thompson. Photo., Vancouver", both are mounted onto the same 10.25 x 8.25 heavy green card. Boorne photo w. minor rubs and a touch of fading near bottom edge at right corner. Thompson photo w. extensive toning and a few scuffs. Note that the young gentleman working the fish net on the dock appears to be of African American descent. W.H. Boorne was at one time partnered with his cousin, Ernest Gundry May operating as Boorne & May in Alberta, while Thompson worked widely, and in 1898, according to BC Camera Workers, was in the north "In 1898 he accompanied an official expedition to northern BC and Wrangel [Alaska] led by the Deputy Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Louis Coste." So it is possible that this Thompson Oolacchan harvest image dates from that time, either from a river in southern British Columbia, or farther up the coast. Seller Inventory # 4116
