Soft Cover, Stapled. Very Good/Paper Wraps. First Edition. 6 x 10". Buff-colored wraps with illustrations of giant sequoias in brown and green, titles in green. (Front-panel illustration is signed W. H. Bull.) Wraps have general edgewear, some chips; yiny chip to top of spine; front panel has general age-darkening, some staining near spine, previous owner's name in pencil across top of front panel: "Mary Hill Taylor," written in a hand that looks to be contemporary with date of publication. The first five pages of text have corners chipped at top; one page has quarter-inch closed tear to top edge. Otherwise interior is sound and clean; binding is tight. The first two pages are text: "A World about the Giants" and "The Way to See the Big Trees," which tells how to take Southern Pacific trains to view them. The rest of the text is devoted to full-page photographs of the sequoias, with brief captions like this: "John Muir thinks this Sequoia is a mature tree, verging to old age. It still ripens its cones with great regularity." Many of the photos feature suitably awe-inspiring illustrations of scale, such as a passel of men on horseback dwarfed by a tree. Page 31 lists agents for Southern Pacific trains in this country and abroad. 32 pages; a wonderful piece of ephemera for those interested in trees, railroads, California, and similar. Relatively scarce piece. Size: 6 x 10". Bookseller Inventory # 001085
