In Hebrew. c. 64 unnumbered pages. 243 x 176 mm. Menachem Softer was born in Rishon LeTziyon, Eretz Israel in 1931. He was a member of the Palmach. He served in the areas of Jerusalem, the Dead Sea and in the south. Immediately after being released from active duty he joined kibbutz kheftiva in the Beit She'an valley. It didn't suit him and he returned to his parent's home in Rishon Letziyon. During his valerous service in the War of Independence he did not even get a scratch, only to be killed by stepping on a land mine in a grove near Kibbutza Gvraam while working for the national electric company. This book has black and white and color sketches of his, and recollections of him by others. Most of the illustrations here are from his period of service in the Palmach during the War of Independence. They are authentic depictions down to the clothing and equipment where the events took place. They capture the moment with authenticity and humor. A few of the sketches have historical value as well. For example, his depiction of the unite's soldiers upon their leaving Kiryat Anavyim for the bloody battle of the Castel. Seller Inventory # 014675
