Memorial Edition for the boys of Geelong Grammer. In fine green full calf cover, tooled spine, with gilt decoration including a superbly fine gilt silver wattle embossed on front cover. Very ornate gilt pattern embossed on inside cover edges, intact. Gilt to all page edges - very near fine. The frontis photo of the author shows the usual foxing seen with the blotting paper used, all other pages are near fine with minimal foxing on a few pages. There is an inscription on the f.f.e.p., "Best wishes from Eion L. Smith 17th Jan. 1915, Eion joined the 8th Light Horse and was killed in Gallipoli 5 months later. ". With former owner's name in a flourishing hand to the top of that page i.e. M.E. Rowan - Marian Ellis Rowan, famous Australian botanical artist and explorer - a close friend of Eion's family and possibly the artist who did the wattle emblem to the front of this book. Eoin was a former student of Geelong Grammar. There are no other marks, underscores , chips, tears or damage. The binding is tight and not bumped.
