It was published weekly at Gimli, Manitoba, the centre of Icelandic settlement in Canada. It served as a regional newspaper for New Iceland (like its forerunner, Framfari). [It was continued by the periodical Gimlunger - 1910-1911). Baldur included news reports, poems by leading Icelandic-Canadian writers, editorials, letters to the editor, official government announcements; reports of local politics and cultural endeavours, educational material on subjects such as agricultural techniques and advice, and advertisements (many illustrated) that reveal much about transport, commerce, and business activities in New Iceland. DESCRIPTION: Almost all issues are four pages in length; a few are comprised of 2 pages. Dimensions for this run are 34 X 28 cm.
